I lived in Amsterdam for 2 years and Vondelpark was one of my favourite escapes/ hiding spots from Amsterdam's busy, metropolitan atmosphere. It's fascinating how even just 10 minutes in the park made me forget I was in a city.
This painting is based on a picture I took in the park. It's as if you are hit with the beauty of the nature twice, thanks to the reflection in the water. I understand why Netherlands gave birth to so many great artists, the landscapes and beauty is so unique, almost as if it was copy and pasted from a fairytale. The sky and clouds are so dramatic and voluptuous, sometimes I can't believe that it is real. Especially when it reflects so perfectly in the water. The water here is like a mirror for nature's reflection. It's calm, moves just enough and we are so lucky to be at eye level with it.
I created this piece in Vondelpark - on a picnic blanket with some grapes :) There might not be the most sun here, but when there is it's magical!
